Persistent heat and humidity continues throughout much of the central and eastern United States, while dangerously hot temperatures return to the Southwest. Multiple rounds of severe storms will bring widespread rainfall from the north-central Plains to the Upper Midwest along a stalled frontal boundary into the weekend.
