On Friday, January 27, Vacca will sponsor a no-cost mammography van in front of his District Office at 3040 E. Tremont Avenue from 9 AM to 4 PM. Local women who are age 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months should call 1-877-628-9090 to make an appointment. The visit is co-sponsored by the American Italian Cancer Foundation, with medical services provided by Multi-Diagnostic Services. Early detection of breast cancer can save lives. Appointments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, everyone who gets a mammogram at the event will be automatically be entered for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card...there is guaranteed to be at least one winner at our site!

Vacca's office is also sponsoring a College Financing and Tax Prep event on Saturday, January 28 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Lehman High School (3000 East Tremont Ave). There will be workshops on money management and college financing for students and families preparing for college, as well as information about college scholarships and grants. In addition, anyone who earns less than $50,000/year is eligible to receive free tax preparation assistance from trained experts at the event. If you have any questions, call Raquel or Vicki in my office at 718-931-1721.

City Island Senior Center gets a new van

Pilot Cove's senior citizen is on the go more than ever...and Vacca wanted to give them a way to get there! He recently joined seniors and staff from the City Island Senior Center to dedicate a new van which was purchased by the center with the help of $42,000 in City Council capital funds which he allocated. The new van will be used to enhance a variety of programs for local residents offered by the senior center, in addition to creating new opportunities for additional programming. The elderly and the disabled should have the same access to services and recreation as anyone else. This new van for the seniors of City Island is just the latest vehicle he has funded at local senior centers in order to get them where they want to go that much easier.
